And even if you don't have those by then, you will have met or conquered another species, or built droids that can colonize it anyway without the need to terraform. 3 of the 4 Ascension Paths Solve habilitability issues without terraforming. Detox, Hydrocentric, World Shaper, Mastery of Nature, each are extremely costly for a style of gameplay that is outdated by the time you get them. Most of the APs I don't pick have to do with terraforming. I do tend to get the same ascension perks every time, but for me its mostly because I think some are so much funner than the others.Ĭolossus Project, Master Builders, Ecu/Hive Worlds give you options you otherwise wouldn't have. I get it is a big undertaking, to change something that has been in the game for so long.īut the sooner you tackle the problem, the better. It is better to nip this in the bud now, rather than have to deal with it down the road when it is as big as the "tech rush meta". While the "perk meta" may not be very big, or well known, it is a thing. You've gone as far as to change the game in the past because a "meta" that was popular was unhealthy for gameplay. I feel like having these extra slots would mean that players could be less judicial about their choices.īecause as it currently sits, even with recent changes to the game and some of the Ascension Perks, a "perk meta" has formed.Įveryone seems to always gravitate towards the same perks, regardless of their empire or playstyle for that game. Now yes, there are mods that increase the amount you can have, sometimes to a ridiculous extreme. But that argument is slowly losing footing. To a point, I get that it makes the choices feel important and you need to weigh them carefully. This might be controversial, but with every big expansion ever since Ascension Perks became a thing, new perks keep getting added in, but the total amount we can have remains the same.
